Laila Bokhari

Laila Bokhari is a research fellow with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). Her areas of research cover the phenomenon of terrorism and the evolution of radical Islamism and political violence, with a particular focus on Pakistan and Afghanistan. Between 2001 and 2009 she worked with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI). She has also worked with the UN Security Council’s al-Qaeda/Taliban Monitoring Team, is a former member of the Norwegian Government Commission on Security Policy and Disarmament and is on the Advisory Board to the Pakistani Institute of Peace Studies.

The Pakistani army has relied on sporadic military strikes, combined with negotiations, in dealing with militants in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Laila Bokhari examines these peace deals to see how successful they have been in stabilising the region. more
