Pinar Tank is a senior researcher at the Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO), where she heads the Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding Programme. She has been working at PRIO since 1998 in the area of security, with a particular focus on foreign and security policy issues related to Turkey–Cyprus; the European Union; and, more generally, civil–military relations. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Oslo in 2009 with a thesis entitled “Turkey’s Military Elite as a Crossroad: Paths to Desecuritisation?” and her master’s degree in Security Studies from the University of St Andrews. She has published several articles and book chapters in international peer-reviewed journals. She is currently researching Turkey’s understanding of soft power within the context of humanitarianism.
