Prior to joining NOREF, Marco Mezzera worked for four years as a research fellow/associate with the Netherlands Institute of International Relations “Clingendael”, where he focused on the political economy of democratisation and governance in post-conflict and fragile contexts. Previously, as a research associate, he spent five years in South-east Asia working for a Bangkok-based regional policy research and advocacy organisation. He subsequently joined the European Centre for Conflict Prevention in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Later, he worked as a consultant on complex emergencies for the Asia Pacific division of the International Fund for Agricultural Development in Rome, Italy.
His geographical expertise covers primarily Pakistan and South-east Asia. He holds an MSc in Development Studies from Wageningen University, the Netherlands and has co-authored four books and written several articles and policy reports.
