This book traces the history of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement back to its origins in the Egyptian Muslim Brothers, long before it appears in 1987 under the acronym of Hamas, and studies its trajectory to 2010. The authors analyse and explain the political process Hamas has followed, its role in Palestinian history, its relations with other Palestinian movements, the causes and consequences of its emergence and lasting presence in the Israeli-Palestinian arena, and its many regional and international ramifications.
