Noref – Norsk Ressurssenter for Fredsbygging – is a resource centre integrating knowledge and experience to strengthen peacebuilding policy and practice.

The objectives of Noref are:

  • To support Norwegian peacebuilding policies and practices by acting as a focal point for these efforts.
  • To support Norwegian and international peacebuilding efforts by networking a variety of governmental and non-governmental experts who are able to contribute to operations through analysis, advice and monitoring.
  • To support the United Nations peacebuilding capacities.

Programme and activities:
In order to support peacebuilding policy and practice, Noref uses a series of instruments to respond to immediate issues of concern as well as facilitate long-term development of policy and strategy:

  • Targeted analytical studies, briefings, reports and newsletters
  • Seminars, workshops and briefings
  • Networking and consultations and meetings with practitioners and researchers in Norway and internationally
  • A database of relevant Norwegian and international expertise
  • Practitioner fellowships

Noref focuses on the following areas:

  • Support to peacebuilding in countries transitioning from conflict
  • Strengthening peacebuilding as practice
  • Strategic peacebuilding challenges and alliances for Norway
