is a researcher at the International Peace Research Institute , Oslo (PRIO) and a member of PRIO’s Conflict Resolution and Peace Building Programme. He is a specialist on security, governance and development issues related to Sudan and the Horn of Africa. Rolandsen has followed developments in the region for over a decade and has conducted a number of field visits in war and post-conflict areas.

He has written a book on political developments in Southern Sudan and several papers on conflict and peace building in the Sudan. Rolandsen holds an MA from the School of Oriental and African Studies and Cand. Philol. degree from the University of Oslo. He is finalising a PhD on civil wars in Southern Sudan.
