Noref Report 15 - Beyond Stabilization in Haiti

Seminar Report, Oslo, 30 April 2009

18 October 2009

Norway’s objectives in its cooperation with Haiti are to contribute to political and social stability and to reduce violence through the strengthening of democratic institutions and the promotion of conflict resolution. Six areas are considered crucial for the long-term stabilization and development of Haiti: agriculture, disaster preparedness, economic growth, political dialogue and reconciliation, youth and education, and strengthening institutions. While seemingly diverse, these areas are interrelated and improvements in each will contribute to the overall stability of the country. Relations between Norway, local actors and international organizations were also identified as paramount to ensure ownership and sustainability of the stabilization process.
