This project examines the concept of state fragility and current approaches to peace- and statebuilding in fragile settings. It focuses in particular on the role of transnational and cross-boundary factors that may contribute to state fragility (e.g. trade in illicit commodities and natural resources; transnational organized crime, global financial flows) and their interplay with local dynamics and actors. The project is funded by the Ford Foundation.
