A plan for Haiti

William G. O'Neill , 13 April 2010

Summary

The wholesale destruction of Haiti's earthquake on 12 January 2010, centred on its capital Port-au-Prince, inflicted huge blows on an already desperately poor country. To recover from the tragedy will require a great mobilisation of the country's people, backed by the support of the international community. The enormous effort needed should focus on six priorities, including the revival of Haiti's rural areas and port cities, basic infrastructural work, environmental protection and access to quality healthcare and education. A fulfilment of these goals would amount to the “second revolution” that Haiti needs and Haitians deserve.
