Sánchez-Garzoli is the leading Colombia human rights advocate at the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA), a US NGO dedicated to changing U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America so that it respects human rights and supports democracy and socio-economic justice. Sánchez-Garzoli leads WOLA's Human rights in the Andes program which is focused on human rights, internal displacement, dismantling of armed groups, ethnic minorities' rights, and labor rights. She is an expert on internally displaced persons, refugees and human rights, and her work has shed light on the situation of Colombia’s more than 4 million internally displaced persons—as well as help expose the links between Colombia’s government and drug-funded paramilitaries. Sánchez-Garzoli  was a Senior Research Analyst for the Brookings Institution-Johns Hopkins SAIS Project on Internal Displacement. She holds a Masters in International Law and International Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS and a BA in Environmental Science for Columbia University's Barnard College.
